LIVING IN DALLAS
As you know, I am not from Dallas, I am from England, but coming here was the best move I ever made and I love living in Dallas. First of all, I want to tell you what brought me here. My wife, Michelle, grew up in Fort Lauderdale and came out here to work for AT&T a few years ago. She then joined CitiGroup as a loan officer but to cut a long story short, she had to move back to South Florida where subsequently she met me, (I was just visiting from England, never thought in a million years I’d end up living here). Although we enjoyed South Florida, we both felt it was time to move on. I had brought up the idea of moving to Dallas because she had always spoken so highly of her years here and the next thing you know, we were living in Dallas.

You might be confused as to why I would trade the palm trees, the beaches, and the year round sunshine for the big D as it is affectionately known. Well, do I miss the year round mosquito bites, year round humidity, and the retirees who look like they have just stepped off the set of a Martin Scorse film? Not really! Would I rather be in Dallas with its seasonal weather, (although hot summers, I grant you), world class restaurants, global cuisine and influence, Texan hospitality, interesting architecture, growing job opportunities, entrepreneurial spirit, live events and by far one of the strongest property markets in the entire country? Erm, yes!
Do not for a moment think that my not hailing from Dallas renders me ignorant of local knowledge. I know my way around here better than the average Dallasite. I spent a long time as a taxi driver in the city, (which of course was all part of my plan to equip myself to better serve my clients). This meant I would converse with locals, who told me what they liked or disliked about their respective areas and subdivisions. I became familiar with all the neighborhoods from Red Oak to Prosper. There isn’t much of Dallas that I don’t know.
One of my favorite things about living in Dallas is the food. I really love Tex Mex, Mexican and Barbeque. I’m particularly fond of The Hacienda Ranch on Preston Rd and Oak’d on Greenville Ave. I have too many favorites to mention here but we can always talk about that when we meet.
The other thing I love about this city is all the sporting events. I played cricket, football (English), and Rugby at school and if you look hard enough you can even find these sports here too. I love the way that events here are enjoyed by everyone irrespective of whether they are even interested in the sport. I witnessed first hand the enthusiasm when I was a taxi driver, picking people up from the AT&T Stadium in Arlington or The Mavs at the American Airlines Stadium in Victory Park.

White Rock Lake
I also love the amount of park space there is here and the abundance of fantastic walks or bike rides. I once walked all the way around White Rock Lake. Don’t be fooled by maps, it’s nine miles all the way around. I urge you to check out Cedar Hill State Park by Joe Pool Lake too. We have marinas and lakeside restaurants too. Again, I have too much to tell you. It’s more than I can write on this blog. I will have to save it all for when I meet you in person and show you around Dallas.
Let’s face it, one of the biggest attractions here is the sheer abundance of opportunities easily paralleled with New York, LA, Chicago, and San Francisco. The DFW Metroplex offers a far more reasonable cost of living than the aforementioned cities and by no means does it scrimp on opportunities, with American Airlines, Caterpillar, Texas Instruments, Charles Schwab, Kimberly Clark, AT&T are just a few on a long ever evolving list of S&P 500 and DOW JONES companies Headquartered here.
